Promotions, Re-orgs, and a Round Anniversary: 3Points Updates for 2020
As we begin 2020, 3Points founder and CEO Drew Mauck provides an update on internal changes to propel us forward this year and beyond.
As it is the start of a new decade, 2020 is a significant year for many. For 3Points, the year takes on an added significance as we will turn 10 years old in April — it’s a new decade in more ways than one.
For the first decade of 3Points, our organization has remained fairly flat. I’ve been managing the company, and while that was doable in the first few years when we had one to four employees, it’s a different proposition when we have over 10 people in the office and support an expanded list of clients and services. Therefore, I’m pleased to announce two well-earned promotions: Lorna Kiewert will now be serving as Vice President, Director of Fintech, and Sam Svoboda will now be serving as COO and Content Director.
Lorna has been a rock for our fintech clients for 7.5 years now, and is, for my money, easily one of the top fintech PR pros in Chicago. She is already overseeing the majority of our fintech accounts and has been managing numerous employees on the fintech side, so it was a natural progression for her to run the practice. Sam will also continue supporting the fintech side with ever-increasing content creation ability, where he has expanded his skill set greatly since starting our content department five years ago. He has also taken on a great deal of internal responsibility in that time, and having him leading our operations will make things easier for everyone.
Both Lorna and Sam have been with the company for more than half of its lifetime, and have already taken on various leadership roles throughout the years. These new titles are not simply rewards, though — they come with added responsibilities, and 3Points will leverage their skills and experience to continue to grow and evolve.
I will still be heavily involved in both our fintech practice and our operations, but with Lorna and Sam taking over many of my duties in those areas, I will be able to further dedicate myself to helping grow our Chicago tech practice. As I wrote about in our 2019 review blog, I’ve really enjoyed becoming more ingrained in the local tech community, and it has been flattering to see the community embrace both 3Points and me. We’ve had our Chicago tech practice for a few years, but with Maddie Hayden and Katie O’Shea now serving as our dedicated Chicago tech team, we plan to take a big step forward from a business perspective this year — and I plan to be a part of that.
Looking back at the past decade, it’s gratifying to see how much 3Points has grown. We’ve gone from my second bedroom to a beautiful 10-person office next to Millennium Park. We now offer a full suite of content and social media services (including graphic design) in addition to our core earned media services. We’ve worked with just about every type of company in financial services, and we’ve become serious players in Chicago tech as well. But we’ll have more on our 10-year anniversary when we get to April — for now, I’ll just say that I’m confident we have the team in place to start this decade off right, and I can’t wait to see where we go.
Please join me in congratulating Lorna and Sam.
